2372 Diary Start of the week October Hillsborough Saville , Wii Fit and more

Monday 22 October 2012 will be recorded as the day that the British Parliament stood up to be counted about one the most disgraceful breaches of trust by public bodies in recent decades as it reviewed the conduct of several Chief Constables down through the ranks from South and West Yorkshire through to the Midlands and now serving in various forces throughout the UK, to the role of the Police Federation, of the Association of Chief Constables and the Inspectorate of Police and those of successive Ministers and Civil servants together with those responsible for the South Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and in relation to Pathologists, the Coroner, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, the Football Association, one particular Member of Parliament, other Members of Parliament subsequently, the media particularly Calvin McKenzie, then Editor of the Sun Newspaper and others Media, in the participation some willingly or some through ignorance, in a criminal conspiracy, to blame ninety six men, women and children for their own deaths as well as the supporters from the City of Liverpool and elsewhere who attended a Cup Semi Final 23 years ago in the City of Sheffield some of whose officials knew the football ground was a death trap because of previous events and individual experiences. The Coroner by albeit unwittingly conspired with the authorities to insist the Inquest assumed everyone had died by 3.15 and what happened after that time was not relevant and could in so doing have damned himself as others already damned themselves beforehand by preventing individual police and others from disclosing their contemporary accounts of what happened on that day. Consequently the deaths were declared accidental and the police celebrated in a room adjacent to the Coroner’s Court when in fact there was corporate and individual manslaughter and criminal negligence on that day following by criminal conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. I will report on the debate and the immediate aftermath shortly,

Tuesday 23rd October 2012 was the day when a House of Commons select Committee fuelled the processes already underway in exposing to public scrutiny of one of the great other scandals of the latter part of the second half of the twentieth century, the involvement and at times successful covering up of criminal sexual, other physical and psychological assault of children and young people in public institutions and from the community by a range of primarily adult men, some of whom were major public personalities, with one of the most iconic men of the 20th century, knighted and feted shown to have been a lifelong practicing paedophile on some of the most vulnerable members of society as well as a horde of silly young out of control of their parents or with tacit parental approval. This is believe will mushroom to become as significant as Leveson as been in relation to the media with now some 300 representations regarding Saville which in turn are placing he spotlight on those who provided the girls, those who turned a blind eye and those who participated with him and are said to involved several major personalities then and to this day. The culture within the BBC towards women is also to be exposed and at Prime Ministers Question on Wednesday, a member of Parliament, Tom Watson, presently Vice Chairman of the Labour Party and a driving force behind the exposure of phone hacking and the role of Murdoch and his management asked if the Prime Minister would considered ensuring that the papers in relation to the conviction of Peter Righton twenty years ago, a major figure in Social Work could be re-examined if available because they were thought to disclose a major ring which somehow unstated was connected to the position of Jimmy Saville and which involved a major figure who advised a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister appeared bemused but did not dismiss the issue out of hand and said he would make appropriate enquiries thus giving a green light to the media to give the question and his response international publicity.

I woke up on Monday after a good 8 hours CPAP Treatment machine use which has raised the average to 7.4 hours over past 30 days. I played five games of chess and Free Cell without great enthusiasm and then completed first draft of writing covering the weekend.

At 09.00 I mentioned that over the weekend I was given a pack of Asda Fruit and cereal bars with 6 apples and cinnamon, 6 blueberries and 6 strawberries. No so keen on the strawberry but they will supplement breakfast over the next three three/four weeks and I had the first this morning with two heated small croissants as part of the 50p mini pack sold off by Asda on Saturday, together with a cup of coffee. I will bake the other baguette later to enjoy with salami and olives for lunch and then have the sea bass purchased for £2 fresh from Asda on Saturday with the other fish put in the freezer.

By 11.00 I had completed ironing after having the iron checked when it appeared to have problems on Saturday and where I nearly junked and purchased another. That has saved a few quid. Also gave the cooker top and fittings their beat clean in sometime and amazingly all for gas burners worked when tested. Also did the washing up, myself, hair and shaved.

By 12,05 the oven was on so put the baguette in to bake and checked the timings of the Commons debate on Hillsborough, the Committee meeting on Saville tomorrow (I correctly presumed the Culture Committee) and the timing of the Panorama programme on the BBC and Saville and then finished weekend writing and published. I listened while I worked to Victoria Derbyshire on BBC with Saville case dominating but also that the Prime Minister was expected to announce the national application of the sacked Chancellor’s scheme about payment by result regarding offenders despite the pilot scheme not being properly assessed and Prisoner after care organisations. Some listeners accuse BBC now of Naval gazing and scapegoat. It appears the Government managers, knowing the Prime Minister and his government were going to have a bad week and pulled out as many good news stories as they could find without checking whether these would prove as counter productive as others have over the past months. The position of the Prime Minister is a rocky one, some would go as far as say teetering and reinforced only by the clinging to power of the Lib Dems.

By 13.00 I had enjoyed a filled baguette which was better baked than yesterday using the timer for nine minutes and filled with the rest of salami and some olives. The two baguettes cost 78p which means that if I wish I create significantly cheaper Cheese and pickle ones for a third of the price which they sell at Greggs. Their loss my gain. On Wednesday I purchased four twin packs which although I could keep until mid December I will use at the rate of one a week, together with a huge jar of Branston pickle £2 and a half kilo of grated Cheddar cheese £2.13, plus a pack of Milano Salami for £1 together with a previously bought lettuce and previous purchased jar of olives which will mean the ability to make a well filled and tasty newly baked baguette for less than £1 except when Salami or other cold meats are added. I must begin to plan menus for the week ahead to ensure a rotation of freezer items.

The most important potential personal affecting event was the arrival of the Wii Fit Board together with a tennis game Tennis game and to which I will add a golf game. I believe Football is included in the Olympics 2012. However I had already decided that I would only play games with the Console after I have mastered the setting up and establishing of a Wii Fit programme.

By 16.00 I had made good progress in getting the Wii Fit board synchronised with the Wii Console after an initial difficulty because the provided batteries were not working but I found sufficient from the home supply to achieve this and then established myself as a guest to begin to try out the system. I was under some time pressure because of wanting to also see if I could connect the system to my wireless internet link which after having found the system disk I was able to do and download the BBC I player channel. There are other channels to be downloaded but this will occur later as I want to listen to the debate on Hillsborough after the Prime Minister has answered questions on the recent meeting of EEC heads on the development of a single banking system for those participating in the euro currency. The British approach is to support the move as long as British interests are not undermined and achieving this balancing act will be difficult. Understandably those wanting an immediate in and out referendum sized the opportunity to have their say. I will be writing about Britain’s approach to the ECC in relation to the recent agreement on holding referendum on the Scottish Independence from the Union separately.

I established the Wii system in my working room where the space is inadequate to engage in the physical activity associated with the Wii Fit programmes. This became clear on Wednesday when I commenced the basic programme after spending a little time getting to understand how the console, the remote and the individual programmes worked. It was evident that to work out I would need to establish the system in the front room and this required a separate Television. I had checked out options and found that it was possible to purchase a 32 inch set for around £200 and decided this was preferable to arranging for the existing other set the original flat screen to have its started repaired for what would be the third time. I took the old set to the Council recycling centre and purchased a Polaroid set from Asda on a take away basis. I carefully unpacked and set up the set and then attached the Wii Console and checked that in addition the system working , the wireless link functioned so I could use the BBC I channel which was successfully, although from the end of the month the same facility should be available via Sky. Obviously without an aerial link next door the other channels cannot be viewed although if I attached the Video cassette and DVD player then my library is available to view. This for another Day. From 4.30 to 10.30 on Monday I viewed the Hillsborough Debate and from 10.30 and until 11.30 the Panorama Programme on Saville and BBC.

On Tuesday I awoke late and there was just time for breakfast before watching the House of Commons Culture Committee interview the recently appoint Director General of the BBC who immediately came across as a laid back traditional chairman leader presumably selected to fit the more charismatic leadership qualities of the Chairman of the BBC Trust, the Lord Chris Patten, sometime last Governor of Hong Kong. The combination pf a shaper and a traditional leader sharing the roles of Chairman Chief Executive or vice Versa is a well founded way of creating a an effective management team which combines drive and inventiveness with stability and security and organizational safety. We have seen with Barclays and in other bodies hoe badly things can go wrong if one individual is given to free a hand without good checks and balances but equally that without such an individuals organisations can stultify and decline into oblivion. Unfortunately this time round you needed an active shaper in command of the day to day activities so from a political and media perspective the performance of the Director General was pathetic and my prediction is that he will not survive for long. I also believe Chris Patten by supporting his senior management in public has also put a question mark over his future in the job.

On Monday I cooked one of the Bass fishes I had purchased from Asda for £2 with a packet white sauce which involved a half pint of milk and constant stirring and which was not a great success. On Wednesday I purchased some inexpensive packets of white sauce for white fish. It reminds that I have been enjoying a few walnuts each day now that nuts in shell have appeared again at the supermarkets as part of the Christmas season. I am well stocked with small fun size chocs and other sweets for the callers at the end of the month as Halloween appears to become more of a major event with the passing of each year and costumes at £6 or so appearing everywhere. I had a pork steak with vegetables on Tuesday and a large Thai fish cake yesterday. Yesterday I also had the first of the home made baguettes, this time filled with cheese, pickle and lettuce. On Tuesday a toasted cheese sandwich was also enjoyed with cuppa soup oft he past two days, Banana and custard once and yesterday a few grapes. For breakfast there have been portions of mushrooms and Tomato, porridge and this morning cold cereal. I have not bought.

I need to wrap up this writing and undertake some chores and a work out more liquorice or night sweets this week but may visit Morrison’s before the weekend. I have not watched any films this week and apart from the news and parliamentary programmes including Prime Ministers Question time yesterday and News night on Tuesday I did catch up on Dallas last night on Channel 5 and Monday nights interesting new tricks which I shall write about next together with other episodes over the past month. Tonight will watch Newcastle play Bruges on ESPN but I have missed European Leaguers on the telly.
