2284 The third week May 2012 begins

If I measure how this third week of May 2012 is progressing according to my present emotional state I would declare it has been a poor one is  but this does not bear further consideration. My emotional response is partly due to the weather, partly to feeling tired and failure to integrate positive development into my present sense of being.

I have sort out financial matters so that the books will balance for the rest of the financial year. I own my car outright on 4th June  when the final HP payment is deducted by direct debit so that with  increases in occupational and state pensions and making other adjustments income has increased, debts rationalised and expenditure commitments modified. My position will remain restricted at  level lower than I would like for two more years when age the age of seventy five it will significantly improve although not in a lifestyle changing way. I will be able to get my video camera sorted and the TV.

Talking of TV my Sky  box on which I am dependent has been playing up and I cannot get a programme forecast more than eight hours or record in advance. I decided to cancel the EPSN football over the summer and spoke with an assistant before reporting the  box fault. I was engaged in a conversation about football which on reflection was a  form of test for when it seemed to me unbusinesslike and I need to go move I was given a three months subscription pause which means I do not pay the extra £9 a month until September which was an unexpected bonus.

Alas the attempt to find a technical solution without the visit of an engineer was not a success. First I repeated was I had worked out for myself namely to unplug at the socket and reboot. We then tried a rebooting hih involves downloading the software to the box. This involved holding down the back button for 30 seconds after unplugging and then continuing to hold after re inserting the wall plug for about thirty more second until all four lights at the front of the machine lit and a large notice infringing of the software download filled the screen. The first attempt at this did not work but the second did. But not in sense of curing the problem which has remained. I will arrange for the engineer another time after watching the  European Champions League Final next Saturday evening. Come on Chelsea, specially as Newcastle are  no longer interested in the outcome.

Getting to 75 has  become a target and a challenge. I have heard from the regional specialist sleep apena clinic having been referred by the local respiratory consultant with an appointment on June 1st  which hopefully will led to  my physical  problems being resolved. This does mean notifying the DLVA although I was pleased to note that loss of the driving licence is not automatic. I continue to battle with weight around the 16.7 and I  believe from what I have read if I can reduce further by another couple of stones this mat eliminate or substantial reduce several current problems. I also need to see the chiropodist again re in growing toenails.

Apart of the food lifestyle change I have continued to drink water than fizzy drinks since returning from the London trip when I indulged in three or four cans of diet pepsi. I have also been trying some meat free products although do not necessarily contribute to weight loss. The first experiment with a couple of Linda McCartney Brand Burgers and Sausages  was something of a disaster as I forgot the gas was put on and they were cooked hard beyond crisp although they were edible and I looked forward to  trying again. However the next try with some cheese and bacon tasting bakes was not a great success nor were the sausages although these were of a different brand.

I enjoyed roast chicken thiks Sunday was a stir fry Monday and curry yesterday. I reversed the usual meal patterns with a quiche salad for lunch and will shortly decide on high tea.  There have been no sprats over the pat month so that it was one temptation avoided. I have yielded to some salted peanuts recently but resisted all temptations  on yesterday‘s supermarket visits to Lidl for fruit and nut cereal and Asda for some milk, mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, curry mix, liquorice, olives and pickled onions. I fancies some spicy Thai fishcakes and  bought the two packs for £3 offer. There was no Tex Mex platter offers to tempt.. I did get the several different Veggie options which as stated was not the success I had hoped. I did not that he packs of frozen veg mixes at Lydl are a better deal that at Asda especially over the  individual packet packs. I restocked on paper with 5 large reams.

I have added a new credit card as part of the financial review and sorting with one from Virgin media in part because of a 22 month balance transfer offer. I had  a great circular conversation which was basically my fault hen attempting to activate the card and register the account on line.  I could not get through the first screen of the registration processes so I phoned to activate the card when the automatic call suggested that because the live customer service people were busy I should do so on line. I asked the assistant if activating meant I could immediately register on line and told yes. I then could not passed the first screen again. A warning came on that further failed attempts would result in further attempts being disabled. I repeated the elaborate process of of  telephone calling and explained what happened, Instead of putting the year of my birth I had put in the present year,

There have been significant developments in the Leveson Inquiry and police investigations which merit close attention but will be dealy until I have completed a TV and film update.
.
The Final of Britain’s Got talent  was watched  on Saturday with the result similar to that in the year when Susan Boyle came second to the dance group Diversity. Both appeared last night while the voting was taking place. The show is misnamed because this year a number of acts were allowed from individuals who are not and have never  been British residents. This clearly is a  marketing  ploy to gain franchises in other European Countries. The programme is very carefully orchestrated to achieve semi finals and final in such a way that some novelty acts are pushed through in order to achieve a balanced Final. This years novelty was a quartet of synchronised  swimmers who performed in an expensive tank in the yard of the auditorium. They had not been selected for the Olympic games so they provided the opportunity to make reference to the games in the programme. I was surprised when they obtained sufficient votes and have since worked how the result can be fixed to a degree although I have no evidence that this in fact is the case.

This is to have only  a similar number of lines for each act and a limited time in which to cast the vote this  which would mean that many who want to record their vote for the favourite will not be able to get through. Having speculate in this way it is interesting that for technical reasons the original ability to vote on line was not possible at the semi final and final stage. In addition to the swimmers there was a young couple who danced, a school age group of dancers, three likeable male singers and instrumentalists, a schoolgirl, singer and a male vocalist with a guitar were also rans. There was no illusionist, musicians (musicians without vocals) or comedian.

There were five acts of a quality seating them from the rest, or last four from my viewpoint. There was a group of young men that Simon pushed and where, presumably pre arranged Garry Barlow sent a Twitter saying they were good Similarly Kylie Minogue or was it Danny said they would buy the record of one young male singer song. I was pleased to have identified the top three although my first and second were reversed. In third place was a a Welsh choir of 144 boys and young men. In the second was a sixteen year old girl with a good stage musical voice perhaps with a classical career ahead and an extraordinary 17 year old with a  large body from a health condition and long hair who has an amazing mature tenor voice whose personality reminded of Susan Boyle. The winner was  another teenage  girl aged sixteen years  who has trained her dog since given as present as a puppy when she was 11 to undertake some imaginative tricks. She won over the audience because of the interaction between the two and highly polished and imaginative performances which suggests some great choreography support behind her.  Both are not kne to performing and have represented the UK in a European competition fortraining dogs,

I believe five of the acts mentioned will find support in various ways for a professional career after the tour shows have been completed.

I have also been watching the 20123 Young Musician of the year event with the final being held at the Sage Gateshead this afternoon. I was very tempted to attend but the Football issues take precedence. I will report on who wins the competition after my favoured participant a percussionist from Korea failed to reach the final with preference  given to a recorder player, the first time someone had won the woodwind section to reach the semi final let alone the final. Earlier in the week I also watched the last four round of American Idol  and still do not know if two of my favoured three made it with a soulful rock and country girl having been eliminated in the previous week who was my number three.

I was tempted to try and get a ticket for the Young musician final when discovering it as being held at the Sage. Gateshead. In fact after phoning and being told there was a sell out I checked on line the following morning and found that one ticket  in a good location was available. I dithered and decided  watch and listen to the football as previously reported. In the event this was the wrong choice. The final lived up to the expectations of previous years. The young recorder player opened the event and impressed by her  technical ability as well as musicianship as she fronted a small chamber size orchestra throughout the concerto unlike most soloists where the attention switches to the orchestra at various moments.

She remained a wild card and it quickly became evident the choice was between the cellist and the pianist. The pianist who failed to win the keyboard section two years ago when he was thirteen played one of the most popular concertos that of Edward Grieg, he was very good but wanted too much to be like Lang Lang. The Cellist at 14  was totally absorbed in her music. You felt she felt  the emotion of every note. She attends and ordinary secondary school and sings in the choir. She had  friends of her own age. On Saturdays she went  to the Junior Royal School of music in London and periodically to visit her original tutor who now lives and works in Germany. There she has individual tutorials and attends class with his other pupils who come from all over the world. She is a young woman destined for greatness.
