1107 Looking forward and backwards

ONE I watched the original the original film version of Julius Caesar on the television to day with Marlon Brando, John Gielgud and James Mason. About twenty years ago I saw the Royal Shakespeare production at Stratford and then at the Theatre Royal Newcastle. And then there have been the Cleopatra films with the most famous that staring Elizabeth Taylor.

TWO I have the text of the plays, or two copies of the text to be precise Under the series title of Men of Destiny I have essays by John Buchan (of the 49 steps) on the life of Julius as well as references in my two main historical works on ancient Rome. I have also seen an R.S.C production of Anthony and Cleopatra with the monster Jack Lindsay biography my authoritative sourcebook.

THREE new friends have been added, two requests to me. There was no hesitation with one interesting young woman who has forty yes forty top friends. I hope she or someone will tell me how this was achieved. I am still not sure about the most recent request from a musician whose music I am yet to listen. What put me off is his image of a man dressed up in ape suit firing live rounds from an automatic. This was not quite as bad taste as someone who I did turn down who offered friendship with an interesting group who do not take life seriously but where a prominent friend was Bin Laden.

FOUR tickets for the Diana memorial concert arrived by special courier this morning while I was sitting on the loo. The tickets reveal that we shall be sitting on the playing area which could mean wet whether outfits. It will be first visit to London for two years and I booked accommodation for the weekend at a Travel Inn near to where I was born and raised. Although it is a travel in on the Southern end of Town there is a railway station with frequent trains into the town centre from where it is only 15 mins by a one stop train into Victoria. The plan is to meet up with the rest of the party at the station for lunch arriving early to take the opportunity to look round what everyone agrees is a quality stadium, The one thing not to do is to travel by car or coach to the stadium. I have travelled by car to various North and North West London overground stations with car parks and then completed he journey on the train which avoid the great crush back into central London. There was one nightmarish journey where I did a two night hotel trip to watch a pre season game involving the Chicago Bear who along with the 49ers were the two teams followed from the days when American Football first came to our screens. After the enjoyable game we had to stand for two hours waiting for the coach to arrive back. Fortunately only part of stadium will be filled for the concert, but this will be a once in the life time event, similar to the Live Aid Concert in 1985. I have decided to go to Durham tomorrow to watch the County in their first semi final competition and will go now and prepare although it is 1 am and I will set the alarm for 7 with tickets on sale from 9am and car parking places at the ground limited. There was a period when rarely missed at home game, even if sometimes I only visited for a couple of hours a day during a championship game. It must be three years since my previous visit. I need to prepare salmon and a pineapple.

1234 visits were made to my profile page earlier in the day.

PS There was also the great comedy Carry on Cleo.
