1567 Real and fictional Terrorisn

Thursday November 27th was not a good day for me and nightmarish experience for the people of India in general, and experience which is continuing in which over 150 people have been murdered and over 300 injured in one of the great and important cities of the world. I am angry and I am upset and overwhelmed with foreboding for the future. Because of a constantly changing situation I will write of this for Friday and write about me.

I awoke early with tooth ache and turned the TV On to distract attention.

About two to three months ago shortly after I registered at my new dentist, photographic x rays revealed an abscess in the making under one tooth which meant I would have a problem later and although dental activity at the time appeared to aggravate the tooth area this lasted only some 24 to 48 hours and breathed a sigh of relief and got on with life. Then last week two visits were made to a dental hygienist for a deep clean and polish and again after a brief period of sensitivity all appeared well until the Wednesday evening meal when in addition of increased sensitivity I had difficulty biting on that side of the mouth, By Thursday morning when I awoke very early there was a constant ache and I decided to visit the nearest branch of the practice and arrange an emergency appointment.

Before departing, I decided to re-hang part of a curtain which had come away from the rail and replace a light bulb and when I was doing the later I made a stupid mistake and did not turn off the fitting before attempting to insert a replacement bulb and fused almost all the lights with the exception of one by the front door, one in the cupboard under the stairs, one in the kitchen and garage and throughout the second floor. I can remember electrical fuses boxes with wire fuses and in my former home rewiring after purchase replaces these type of fuses with the individual fuses similar to those used in the plugs of appliances. However those in the present home were different, I attempted to contact a local electrician and got several answer phone message and I knew from experience in relation to these domestic problems that one could spend the greater part of a day or not at all getting a response and missing the opportunity of finding someone who it was possible to speak direct and learning if immediate assistance was available. Eventually I got into contact with an assistance who said they would get back after speaking with the nearest electrician within 15 minutes. After writing for an hour I left a message saying that if I did not receive further contact within the hour I would seek someone else, and within 15 minutes I was advised that contact had not been made therefore it was likely I would not get help until Friday.

I therefore decided to do something about my tooth and was advised firth at the registered branch and then at the more central premises that the vacant slots had been filled and I would have to attend and be prepared to wait until I could be fitted in, suggesting I call at around 2.45.

This gave me opportunity to make further enquires about an electrician and the second telephone number tried was in and willing to come out during the afternoon, possible before the dental visit or afterwards. The visit was made just before I needed to depart and the problem was a simple one. I had tripped a switch which if moved back resolved the problem. In fairness before contacting an electrician I had checked to see if my immediate neighbours were in for advice if they also had similar fuse boxes but as is custom they were all out. However the visit was of double use because I took the opportunity to refer the problem of the day room light fixture and this will now be sorted next week.

I had the TV on and watched with growing concern. Recently I wrote that the world had changed for the better with the election of Barrack Obama as the next USA President. Wednesday 26th November a great darkness descended over the world because there will have to be a proportion response.

I have never like going to the dentist and in this I am not unique and hopefully the work undertaken of removing the old filling, removing the nerve ends of the dead tooth, inserting antibiotics and making a temporary covering with pave the way for ending the problem. It was necessary for me to have two injections before the work could be undertaken and it was therefore a longer than usual period before the freezing of the mouth wore off and the ache returned I had been up since before dawn and without a siesta so feeling very tired I went to bed and slept for several hours, including getting up once and returning to bed and sleep thus creating a new imbalance with the body clock.

On most days the combination of the toothache and the fusing of lights would have dominated but in what has become an extraordinary week of for coincidence in which I received DVD’s focussed on the Middle East, viewed films on TV about the reality of War and then seen a new film about international Terrorism in theatre on Wednesday, that early on Thursday after completing the checking of my late evening and over night writing, I found that the most significant and dangerous terrorist atrocity since 9/11 was being committed in the second city of India, Mumbai, previously known as Bombay on the coast of India. One of the world’s biggest cities with an overall population close to 20 million the fifth most populous metropolitan area in the world

It is the financial capital of India and regarded as one of the top financial centres in the world in which the national and state stock exchanges, the National bank and where there are the head quarters of India’s major companies and multi national concerns.

The city is also one the remaining great port‘s of the world accounting for half of India’s maritime cargo. It is also a major industrial centre account for a quarter of India’s output.

It is also the entertainment and social capital and cosmopolitan centre not only bringing to together the various religions and peoples within India but. Regarded as a tourist gate way to the rest of India, attracting wealthy business people and student back packers

I had not watched the news going to bed immediately after the wonderful performance of Madam Butterfly the previous evening, about the same time as the atrocities commenced. Often when I come down again in the early hours I check the headlines on the internet and turn on the TV news channels for the full story to see the different perspectives, but I had not done so in this instance so the impact of had then happened when I did switch on the TV around 8am was even greater than usual. This was no Hollywood fiction or retrospective documentary. This was murder on the grand scale committed and being committed over a period of more than 48 hours.
